Asma’ bint Abi Bakr (ra)  :592 CE - 692 CE, She was Abu Bakr’s daughter. Her mother was Qutaylah bint Abd-al-Uzza, and she was the full sister of Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr. Her half-sisters were Aisha and Umm Kulthum bint Abi Bakr, and her half-brothers were Abdul-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr and Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr.  When Muhammad(saw) and Abu Bakr sought refuge in the cave of Thawr outside Mecca on their migration to Medina in 622, Asma used to carry food to them under cover of darkness. When the Prophet and Abu Bakr left the cave, Asma tied the goods with the two belts of her cover, and for this ingenuity she received from Muhammad(saw) the title Dhat an Nitaqayn meaning She of the Two Belts. She was married to Al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam shortly before the Hijra.[5] She joined him in Medina a few months later

The time that Rasulullah(saw) preceding to his prophet hood was the period of darkness. However there were some glimpses of light here and there. Humanity was in dire need of guidance. But there were some individuals who had a sense of right and wrong and their hearts directed them to the truths.

Few of these examples

Zayd bin ‘Amr bin Nufayl – went out in search of truth and travel out of Makkah, he was from Quraish but he travelled around in search of guidance. So he went to the Jews and inquired about their religion, but he decided not to follow it. He did the same to the Christians, and he also decided not to follow it. At the end, he came to learn about the way of Ibrahim (as), al-Hanifiyyah, worshipping Allah alone. He became a Hanifi, a follower of Ibrahim (as). He was a lone voice in the sea of darkness in Makkah. Asma’ bint Abi Bakr (ra) said that she saw Zayd leaning against the Ka’bah speaking to the people of Quraish that none of you is following the way of Ibrahim except myself. People at that time were claiming they were the inheritors of Ibrahim, but Zayd would tell them this. He would also say: “O God! If I only knew the way most favored by You, I would worship You by it, but i don’t know [Suhbanallah, he believes in Allah , he knows the truth but he does not know how to apply it or how to worship Allah(swt), he does not have a sharia to follow, he has the believe , he has the faith but he does not know how to worship Allah(swt) and there people like Zayd in every time , people whose hearts were guided to the truth , they wanted to worship Allah(swt) but they have not been shown how to do it, like this some reverts has been through such experience and Abu-dar (ra) also had similar thoughts , its amazing thing to see that how many things that Zayd knew by his nature of this position , for example , He would not participate in the killing of girls that existed in Makkah, he would even go to the father who plans to kill his daughter and tell him to give him his daughter and that he would take care of her, he will adopt all of these girls and raised them up and he will also says to their father you can take them back after they grown up or you could leave them to me. He refused to eat the meat slaughtered in Makkah. [It was mention that once a meat was presented to Rasulullah(saw) , he(Saw) refused it and passed it over and given to Zayd and zayd said ,”I don’t eat from this meat which is slaughter for your Gods” ]  He will also go to Qurysh and criticize them for slaughtering these sheeps on the name of their Gods.  He will tell them that Sheeps are created by GOD (Allah) and Allah brings down the water from sky for vegetation to grow for them from the earth so why do you slaughter them in the names of your God other then Allah.

72 Hunting, Slaughtering

(16) Chapter: Animals sacrificed on An-Nusub and for the idols
Narrated `Abdullah:
Allah's Messenger (?) said that he met Zaid bin `Amr Nufail at a place near Baldah and this had happened before Allah's Messenger (?) received the Divine Inspiration. Allah's Messenger (?) presented a dish of meat (that had been offered to him by the pagans) to Zaid bin `Amr, but Zaid refused to eat of it and then said (to the pagans), "I do not eat of what you slaughter on your stonealtars (Ansabs) nor do I eat except that on which Allah's Name has been mentioned on slaughtering."

He died prior to the prophethood of Rasulullah(saw). His son, Sa’eed (one of the ten who were given the glad tidings of Paradise), inquired about his father. Rasulullah(saw)  told him that “your father will come on the day of Judgement as a nation alone.” It is an honor for him to stand as a nation alone and Allah will grant him Jannah because he knew the truth and worshipped Allah (swt) the best he could. So  Zaid bin amr was also given the glad tidings of Jannah

On the Day of Judgement people are going to be divided by nations and every nation is lead by a prophet like nation of nuh (as), nations of Musa(as), nations of Isa(as), nations of Ibrahim(as) and Nation of Mohammed(saw) because Zaid bin Nufail was not part of any particular nation of a Prophet he would come on the day of Judgement on his own Nation It is an honor for him to stand as a nation alone and Allah (swt) will grant him Jannah

Sayeed bin Zayd: He is also nicknamed "Abu-al-Aawar". He was born in 593-4 AD and was an early convert to Islam.  He was not yet twenty when he embraced Islâm." that was before 613. His young and steadfast wife Fatimah, daughter of al-Khattab and sister of Omar(ra), also accepted Islâm early. He was from the one of The Ten Promised Paradise. He died in 673.

Ibn Abbas (ra) : Abdullah was the son of 'Abbas, an uncle of the noble Prophet. He was born just three years before the hijrah. When the Prophet(saw) died, 'Abdullah was thus only thirteen years old.  When he was born, his mother took him to the blessed Prophet(saw) who put some of his saliva on the babe's tongue even before he began to suckle. This was the beginning of the close and intimate tie between 'Abbas and the Prophet(saw) that was to be part of a life-long love and devotion. He is revered for his knowledge and was an expert in Tafsir of the Qur'an, as well as an authority on the Islamic Sunnah.

Waraqah bin naufel

Waraqah bin Nawfal – the cousin of Khadija (ra), he was a Christian, a lettered man and used to copy the scriptures of the Christians and studied from them. He was a believer in one God (Allah Az-Zaujal), and there were still some Christians who believe in Tawheed and would not attribute divinity to ‘Isa (as). He was one of them, and he was the one Khadija consulted when Rasulullah(saw) first received the revelation. Immediately after that Waraqah passed away, and people wondered his fate and what would happen to Waraqah bin Naqfal. They said he would be in Hellfire because he died before Rasulullah(saw) started preaching the message even though Rasulullah(saw) received the message but he did not started preaching that yet but Rasulullah(saw) said: “I have seen him in a dream and he was wearing white clothes. If he was a man in Hellfire, he wouldn’t be wearing white clothes.” Later on Rasulullah(saw) saw another dream and saw that Waraqah had two gardens in Paradise. So he was in Jannah for he had the right belief

"The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) was asked about Waraqah. Khadijah said to him: 'He believed in you, but he died before your advent.' So the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'I saw him in a dream, and upon him were white garments. If he were among the inhabitants of the Fire then he would have been wearing other than that.'"

The Quba Mosque in the outlying environs of Medina in Saudi Arabia, is the oldest mosque in the world. Its first stones were positioned by the Muhammad(saw) as soon as he arrived on his emigration from the city of Mecca to Medina.  and the mosque was completed by his companions. Muhammad(saw) spent more than 20 nights in this mosque (after migrating) praying qasr (a short prayer) while waiting for Ali whose house was behind this mosque. offering two raka??t of nafl prayers in the Quba Mosque is equal to performing one Umrah.

Al-harra sharqiya and Al-Hara gharbia
Salman Al-FarisiIbn Abbas (ra) went to Salman Al-Farisi in his old age and requested Salman to tell his story. [Salman himself narrating his story to Ibn Abbas (ra)] He said: “I was a Persian man from Isfahan (Iran), from a village called Jih. My father was the head man of the town/village and I was striving and taking pains in the religion of al-Majusia or Magian (belief in good and evil and worship fire, it’s a form of Shirk). He grew in the religion until he became the keeper of the fire, lighting it and never letting it die [Every village they will have a Temple of fire and fire need to be kept by a certain person to ensure that it is always burning, This is one of the highest position in their religion ]. My father owned a large farm, one day he was busy constructing a building of his and wanted me to go out and take care of business in the farm. My father loved me so much he closeted me in his house and would never let me leave. But he told me ‘O my son, you know how dear you are to me if you are late I would be so concerned about you and you are more important to me than my farm or my building. So please come early.’ I was kept in his house like a slave-girl, not letting me go anywhere. He said that , I passed by a church [a Christian church] and I heard them pray, and I went in to investigate. I never knew much about people since I wasn’t allowed to leave home. So this was something new to me and that I came to realize there was a new religion. I was quite impressed by their method of praying and I ended up staying with them until sunset and I ended up neglecting my father’s work. He became so worried about me that he sent people to search for me. I came back late and my father said ‘O my son, didn’t I tell you not to be late, what happened?’ He related the events and told his father that their religion is better than Magian, His father told him “Oh my Son their religion is no Good , your religion and religion of your fore father is better, Salman Al-Farisi responded by saying “No Their religion is better than ours”.   His father got even more worried that his son would change his religion that he chained him in the house and imprisoned him in his own house.   Salman while he was in church he asked people about the centre of their religion (ie) where this religion originated from? He got an answer that it was originated from Holy land Palastien (ash-shaam).  While in shackles, he was able to send a message to the church telling them to inform him if there was a caravan going to ash-sham.

So , A caravan did come in and they sent him a word and Salman al-Farisi able to release himself and run away, He went with this caravan all the way to the Holy Land in search of the truth. He arrived in Syria and asked about the most learned man of Christianity , he wants to study the religion under the greatest. He went to the Bishop and told him he wanted to study with him , Bishop told him to stay with him and Salman ended up in staying with Bishop in church . Salman said that this man used to ask the people to donate and keep it to himself rather than distributing to poor. He was an evil man and he hated him so much but he stayed with him. When the bishop died, the Christians wanted to have a burial for him but Salman exposed his evil deeds , they asked him how do you know then salman said, “I will show you the proof” and he took them to the place where Bishop used to hide all of  the money he wrongfully took. Salman pulled out 7 containers filled with Gold and Silver, Bishop was ripping the money from people and keeping for himself.  Salman farasi said that this angered the people and they ended up crucifying his dead body and stoning him instead.

Than they appointed someone in his place, and he said about this man “I have never seen a man who attended to the five daily prayers such as this man, Who is better then him, nor more ascetic, nor more devoted to worship day and night. I loved him as I had never loved before.” A truly pious person took his place.

Salman ended up studying under this man, worshipping, in the church but death was approaching this man. Salman went to him at his death bed and told him that “you know my story , I came all the way to study this religion , since decree of Allah is be befalling you , who do you entrust me to, who would you recommend for me to continue my study, basically he is  asking where he could seek knowledge next but the bishop told him he didn’t know anyone on the same path as he is now , people had either died or changed or abandoned most of their prior practices, except for one man in Mosul he practice as I do, so join him.  After bishop died Salman travelled from Ash-Sham (Syria) to Mosul in Iraq in search of knowledge. He went to this Bishop of Al-Mosul and told him his story and also he told him that he was recommended by the bishop in Shyam then he was accepted to be his student . But he was also an old man, approaching death, so Salman asked him for a recommendation again. He told him that “I don’t know anyone who is following the same path of ours except  the bishop in Nasibi.

He travelled all the way to Nasibi and he went to this Christian man , told him his story that he is been travelling from this person to this person and now I ended up coming to you then he spent time with the bishop of Nasibi.

But this man was approaching death too,  they are dyeing one after another and they are not leaving any one behind them to carry on the torch.  This scholar of Nasibi told while dyeing that , he don’t know anyone who is following on his way except a man in Amuria  in Byzantium (Turkey)

After the Scholar of Nasibi  died, Salman traveled all the way to Turkey and In Amuria Salman Al farasi in addition to his studies , participation of worship services he started a business and accumulated enough to buy sheep and cow. When death was approaching to his teacher in Amuria , Salman asked him to recommend some one to study with, he responded and said “My Son who is as we were to whom i send you to”  but the time is near for a prophet to be sent with Ibrahim’s religion who will come forth in the land of the Arabs. He will move to refuge to somewhere with date palms growing between two scorched rocky plains. He will have signs that are unmistakable. He will eat things given to him as gifts but not alms, and between his shoulders there is a seal of prophet hood. If you can go there, do so.

(This scholar of Amuria saying that no one today leaving who is following same path of one who believes in the true message of Jesus, they have all passed away , therefore it is time for new message to come because now the world is void of guidance , so now it is time to fill that void. So a Prophet will come , he is approaching, his time is near and he has unmistakable signs , and these are his signs
  1.     He will take refuge in the place that grows Palm trees and it is between two rocky tracks, volcanic rocks
  2.     He goes not eat Sadaqa (charity)  but he accepts Gifts
  3.     On his back, Between his shoulders there is a seal of prophet hood)

Salman Al Farasi said that , “I was trying to find the way to reach these lands of Arabs, which is far away, until I met some merchants from the Tribe of KALB , I asked them to carry me with them and I will pay them all of the money that I have with my cows and my sheep all yours, Just take me to the lands of the Arabs”  [Look at the sacrifice of Salman, he worked so hard to build up this small business to accumulate some wealth and now he is going to give it up , just to be taken / transported to the land of the Nabi, this story of Salman al Farasi is an amazing story for some one who is searching for TRUTH]

They agreed and carried him and when they reached Arabia , a place called Wadi-al-Qura, they betrayed him and sold him as a slave to a Jewish man.

[Now to get stuck in to slavery, is that’s it. No body will believe you that you are a Free man, This caravan claim that he is a slave and ended up selling him which caused Salman Al Farasi to stuck in bondage]

He said that “A cousin of my owner from Bani Quraidha (Jew from Bani Quraidha) visited my Master and he purchased me. (Salman was sold by this Jew from Wadi-Al-Qura to another Jew from banu Quraidha.  Banu Quraidha live in Madina ). He said that , “As soon as i see the place of Madina , I knew this was the place described to be”

Madina is very rich with Palm grove ,it has lots of Palm trees, and it is located between two rocky tracks, Al-harra sharqiya and Al-Hara gharbia, these are two rocky tracks of Volcanic rocks , very dark .

[This was a natural protection of Madina , during the Battel of Trench ,
Rasulullah(saw) did not make Trench all over Madina but he dug the Trench only one side of Madina. Because on two sides Madina was protected by These Rocky Tracks. These are not Mountains , these are very sharp rocks , its very difficult for an army to move/cross these Volcanic rocks. These are the natural barriers and from south Madina is protected by Palm Trees , Madina could be attack from the North, that is the only direction that enemy could attack Madina , That is where Rasulullah(saw) dug the Trench]

Salman-Al-Farisi said,
Rasulullah(saw) was sent and spent years in Makkah but i had no idea about him , because i was busy in the toils of Slavery , because slave is busy to his master and he does not have any idea what’s going on around the world.  Salman Al Farisi had no idea that Rasulullah(saw) preaching the message.
Salman Al Farisi said , One day  I was working on top of a palm tree and my master was sitting under the palm tree and said that one of his cousins (a jew from bani quraidha) came to him while being angry, cursing the children of Qayla (name attributed to Al-Aws and Khazraj) they have assembled in Quba in support of a man who came from Makkah who claims to be a prophet.

When I heard that a chill came down my spine and I started to tremble and I almost fell from the palm tree and land on my master.  “Subhanallah , Salman Farisi has been waiting for this moment for years.  He has given up his life and he has left his family, Left his home land and came in to foreign Land different language, different culture and different people .  Those days it is not easy to travel and live among the people  of foreign Land. It is not like today, like you can have interpreters, translators and access to the people who can speak your language but those days it was difficult.  Salman Al Farisi Left Persia and then went to As-Shaam and then went to Turkey, and then went to Iraq and now in the land of Arabs which is very secluded Area in sense that Land of Arab is surrounded by Desert and does not have easy contact with outside world,  Persian , Rome was far away from it , It was very secluded land, very difficult , very harsh , apart from this Salman Al Farisi living alone as a Slave.  You could imagine the feeling of Home Sickness that such a person could have. Sold as a slave , living in a foreign land and   Now he has heard the news he has been waiting years for. He said: “I came running down the tree and I went to the man and I asked him questions. My master grabbed me and punched me in the face and told me that it was none of my business and to get back to work. Later on that evening, I prepared some food, and I travelled to Quba and went to visit
Rasulullah(saw) at night [Quba is just out skirt of Madina and Rasulullah(saw) first arrived in Quba and built the Masjid of Quba, now this place is with in Madina]. I went in and I told him ‘I heard that you are a very good man and that you have companions who are strangers and needy. So I have brought you this food as charity and I think that you are the one who deserves it most.’ Rasulullah(saw) received the food from me and then he told his companions to go ahead and eat but he didn’t join in with them (Sign #1).

I went back and later on I prepared some food to bring to
Rasulullah(saw) and he was on his way back to Madinah. I went up to him and greeted him and told him ‘Last night I presented you with food and told you that it was charity, and you refused to eat from it. So I want to honour you with this gift.’ I handed the food to Rasulullah(saw) and he invited the companions to come in and eat and he joined with them (Sign #2).

And then I went to him and visited him when he was at Baqi’ (cemetery of Madinah) and he was following a Janaazah. I went up to him and greeted him and then I went around him to see the sign on his back.
Rasulullah(saw) sensed I was trying to look for something that was described for me. So he uncovered his back, throwing off the cloak that was covering his shoulders. And right there in front of my eyes was the seal of the prophethood (Sign #3).

When I saw the seal of the prophethood on his back, I fell down and prostrated myself to Prophet Muhammad (saw) and I started kissing his feet and I was crying, that was the moment that Salman Al Farsi was waiting all of his life.
Rasulullah(saw) immediately told me to stand up as Rasulullah(saw) does not accept sujood for himself and he told me to tell him my story. And Rasulullah(saw) told me to narrate the same story to his companions. I narrated my story to them just like I am narrating it to you now, Ibn Abbas. Because I was a slave, I ended up missing the Battle of Badr and Uhud, and the Prophet (saw) told me one day ‘O Salman, free yourself from slavery through Mukataba.’  In Mukataba a Slaves can ransom themselves from slavery by making a contract with their masters to fulfil a certain amount of obligation.

His master told him to plant 300 palm trees that must survive at the end i have to have 300 living palm trees , and you pay me 40 ounces of gold. So I went back to
Rasulullah(saw) and told him that this is a huge amount for me to pay. And Rasulullah(saw) told him ‘Don’t worry’ and he gathered the Sahaba and told them to help their brother. Some of them would bring 15, 20 , 30 seedlings of palm trees as much as they can until I had 300 seedlings. Rasulullah(saw) told me that when I have collected 300 seedlings I should dig the hole for them but not to plant them and to go to him(saw) and tell him(saw) first. When he did so, he informed the Prophet (saw) and the Prophet (saw) would carry the seedlings and would plant them one by one with his own blessed hands. None of those 300 palm trees died and they all grew and survived (The usual ratio of palm trees end up growing is comparatively small, many of them die at young due to fertility and heat of the desert , difficult weather condition ). Now he had to pay 40 ounces of gold, and later on a small amount of gold was given to Rasulullah(saw) and Rasulullah(saw) asked for Salman ‘Where is that Persian brother’ (Innal hakmul farisi). They (sahaba) went and call Al-Farisi then He(saw) therefore told him to take this gold and free himself from slavery.

When he saw the gold ,he told What this would do, it seemed insufficient .
Rasulullah(saw) told him to take it and it will be enough  so when he took it to his master it weighed 40 ounces exactly. And he said: “And then I was free and I never missed anything with Rasulullah(saw) after that. The first battle he participated in was the Battle of the Trench (al-Khandaq) and he was the one who came up with the idea of digging the trench.

Few notes on his story:

Who is the first man Salman Al Farisi ended up studying?  He was a bishop in Syria  (As-Sham), Salman al Farisi said about him that ,”He was an evil man, demanding Alms from his people and whatever he collected , he will store it for himself and not give it to the poor, eventually he has gathered 7 Jars of gold and silver, I hated him lot for what I saw him doing”.  Salman is in search of Truth and he ended up in meeting a person like this , these are characteristics that could have made him turn away from seeking knowledge, but the zeal of seeking knowledge was stronger than that. Nowadays, we say that our actions are a reason why people are turning away from Islam. It’s true to a certain extent but if someone is sincere in their search for the truth, they should realize that the truth is one thing and people’s actions are another. Salman did not reject Christianity due to the character of this man, he stuck with him and remained and rewarded him later on, by letting him by the side of the best man he had ever known, salman described this man as “I never saw a man who did not attend 5 prayer , better than him”, which means this is the best man I ever seen before meeting the Muslims in other words the righteous and pious man he ever seen before meeting the Sahabas.

Life Lesson
We learn two things from this:

1) Allah (swt) says in Surah Muhammed 47:17

Sahih International:
And those who are guided - He increases them in guidance and gives them their righteousness.
Muhsin Khan:
While as for those who accept guidance, He increases their guidance, and bestows on them their piety.

that the ones who searches for guidance, Allah will give it to them but you have to look for it, you have to put some effort, by doing this the reward what you get is more then what you put in. If you walk towards Allah, Allah will run towards you, if you take one step towards Allah, He will take many steps towards you, but you have to take that first step [YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT]
Salman was searching for it and got it. Allah(swt) guided him even though he belong to the land that is 100s of miles away, he ended up receiving the truth because of his sincerity .

2 We shouldn’t be let down when we see someone not doing the right thing. It doesn’t have anything to do with the message itself. Salman-al-farsi(ra) realize that and he remain with that man until he died and ended up with better person.
Important point to note is, there were remnants of true believers before
Rasulullah(saw) but they were dying and didn’t leave anyone behind them, that is why the world was thirsty for the message of Rasulullah(saw)

The Muslim community must be supportive of their own brothers (and new members)
Rasulullah(saw) helped Salman to free himself and he requested the Sahaba to pitch in and participate in freeing Salman.  As Muslims living in the west , it become a duty among us to  takecare of the needs of the new comers to the religion and many times these needs would be financial and they need to be helped and this is part of Da’wah,  Dawah is not just throwing out words which does not cost you anything but Dawah is also a  responsible for the people who joined your ranks.  Notice that many of the early Muslims those you were in need like Bilal (ra) who was freed by Abu-Bkr (ra), Many of the Muslims were slaves who need lot of financial help because they were trow away by their masters or chased out of their family for ex: Musa-ibn-Umair (ra) who came out from very wealthy family but his mother refused to give him anything after he become Muslim.
Many new members need of support in the initial stages and the risk is that if they don’t get help during those critical periods, they could apostate.

A recent study done in America that, a significant number of reverts leaving Islam because of the difficulties they face
Many of them are stripped from social belongings, neglected by their families, and rejected by their friends. They are in need of a social belonging and a new association.

Some of them come with dire financial needs and if they don’t get them, they get sidetracked and instead focus on fulfilling these needs than learning about Islam [Human being is a human being, if the belly is going empty as it was mentioned in a Hadith,
Rasulullah(saw) said do the good deed before severe things could happen , one of them is poverty that will make you forget.  If your stomach is empty you will forget everything.  A person going thru hungry cannot think about spirituality, Ilm, knowledge, etc. The person at that stage would want to feed their stomach, so these are the things need to be considered and part of the Dawa, we have to have institutions that will satisfy and fulfil the needs of the new Muslim, and that is the part of our duty as Muslims living in the Non Muslims Society where people are embracing Islam.

Bani Quraidha : were a Jewish tribe which lived in northern Arabia, at the oasis of Yathrib (presently known as Medina), until the 7th century. In February/March of 627 AD, their conflict with Muhammad led to a 25-day siege of Banu Qurayza ending in the tribe's surrender.

Baqi : When Muhammad(saw) arrived at Medina from Mecca in September 622, al-Baqi was a land covered with Lycium shawii boxthorn trees. During the construction of the al-Masjid al-Nabawi, on the site he(saw) purchased from two orphan children when he arrived after his migration from Mecca to Medina, Asa'ad Bin Zararah(ra), one of Muhammad(saw) companions died. Muhammad(saw) chose the spot to be a cemetery and Asa'ad was the first individual to be buried in al-Baqi among the Ansar.

Mukataba : Mukataba is one of the four procedures provided in Islam for manumission of slaves.  A mukataba is a contract of manumission between a master and a slave according to which the slave is required to pay a certain sum of money during a specific time period in exchange for freedom
