THE LIFE OF

MUHAMMAD
(Sallalahu Alayhe Wassalam)

THE MAKKAN PERIOD

Part - 08

Cave of Hira  is a cave about 2 mi (3.2 km) from Mecca,on the mountain named Jabal al-Nour in the Hejaz region of present day Saudi Arabia. The cave itself is about 12 ft (3.7 m) in length and 5 ft 3 in (1.60 m) in width.  Taking 600 steps to reach, the cave is at a height of 270 m (890 ft) and the radius is 263.23 m (863.6 ft) During the Hajj around 5,000 Muslims climb up to the Hira cave daily to see the place where Muhammad(saw) received the first revelation of the Quran on the Night of Power.Muslims do not typically consider seeing the cave an integral part of the pilgrimage. Nonetheless many visit it for reasons of personal pleasure and spirituality.

Rasulullah(saw) use to spend long hours of time in the Cave of Hira.  One day he was visited by the Arch Angle Jibreel (as) in his original form (ie) Angelic form (This happed twice in the life of Rasulullah(saw))  and told him IQRA [Recite].

Word Iqra has two meanings
-    Read
-    Recite
In this situation its Recite.

Rasulullah(saw) responded “I Cannot Read”
Jibreel (as) grabbed , squeezed him(saw) and released him(saw) and told him(saw) “IQRA”.

Rasulullah(saw) responded “I Cannot Read”
Second time Jibreel (as) grabbed , squeezed him(saw) and released him(saw) and told him(saw) “IQRA”.

Rasulullah(saw) responded “I Cannot Read”
Third time Jibreel (as) grabbed , squeezed him(saw) and released him(saw) and told him(saw) “IQRA”.

After third time. Jibreel(as) recited the first verses of Quran
Surat 'Surat Al-`Alaq (The Clot) Chapter 96: Verse 1-5

Sahih International
Recite in the name of your Lord who created -
Created man from a clinging substance.
Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous -
Who taught by the pen -
Taught man that which he knew not.

Muhsin Khan
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists),
Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood).
Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous,
Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)].
Has taught man that which he knew not.

This was the first encounter between Rasulullah(saw) and the Angle Jibreel(as) .  Rasulullah(saw) was terrified by that incident and He(saw) went back home to his wife Khadija (rah) .

Zambilooni Zambilooni Dathirooni, Dathirooni, [wrap me in a garment and wrap me in a garment]

Rasulullah(saw) was shivering , He(saw) was feeling Cold, he was asking his wife to wrap him up.

He(saw) was terrified due to this incident and he(saw) was also had a dislike towards Jin, sorcery, Sprits etc.  He (saw) had a fear that what was happened to him is similar to what happens to Sorcerers.

Rasulullah(saw) explained to his wife Khadija (rah) . Khadija (rah) responded to him(saw) “No Allah(swt) will never forsake you”  because of your righteousness

She said ,
You support the needy,
You helped the poor,
You are generous towards the Guest,”

From his(saw) prior conduct of Rasulullah(saw) Khadija(rah) knew that such a person cannot be forsaken by God.

Khadija (rah) offered Rasulullah(saw) to take him to her uncle (or some narration her coursin) Waraqah bin naufal.

Khadija then accompanied him to (her cousin) Waraqa bin Naufal bin Asad bin `Abdul `Uzza bin Qusai. Waraqa was the son of her paternal uncle, i.e., her father's brother, who during the Pre-Islamic Period became a Christian and used to write the Arabic writing and used to write of the Gospels in Arabic as much as Allah wished him to write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight. Khadija said to him, "O my cousin! Listen to the story of your nephew." Waraqa asked, "O my nephew! What have you seen?" The Prophet (saw) described whatever he had seen. Waraqa said, "This is the same Namus (i.e., Gabriel, the Angel who keeps the secrets) whom Allah had sent to Moses
SubhanAllah
Waraqa immideiatly made a correlation between muhammed (saw) and Musa (as).

Waraqa said some thing interesting,
He said:  I wish I were young and could live up to the time when your people would turn you out."

This was a surprise to Rasulullah(saw).

Rasulullah(saw) questioned back to Waraqa?  "Will they turn me out?"

He(saw) had every right to question him because, Rasulullah(saw) was most beloved and admired man in mecca , belongs to the nobelest family in mecca (ie) banu hashim , He(Saw) never had any querral among his people to drive him away from his own land. Apart from this they all were living under the culture of Tribal society , which lives with high bondage and extreme loyalty  between its members.

Waraqa responded : Waraqa replied in the affirmative and said: "Never did a man come with something similar to what you have brought but was treated with hostility. If I should remain alive till the day when you will be turned out then I would support you strongly."

91 Interpretation of Dreams

(1)Chapter: Commencement of the Divine Revelation to Allah’s Messenger (saws) was in the form of good dreams
Narrated `Aisha(rah)':
The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah's Messenger (saw) was in the form of good righteous (true) dreams in his sleep. He never had a dream but that it came true like bright day light. He used to go in seclusion (the cave of) Hira where he used to worship(Allah Alone) continuously for many (days) nights. He used to take with him the journey food for that (stay) and then come back to (his wife) Khadija to take his food like-wise again for another period to stay, till suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him in it and asked him to read. The Prophet (saw) replied, "I do not know how to read." (The Prophet (saw) added), "The angel caught me (forcefully) and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it anymore. He then released me and again asked me to read, and I replied, "I do not know how to read," whereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it anymore. He then released me and asked me again to read, but again I replied, "I do not know how to read (or, what shall I read?)." Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me and then released me and said, "Read: In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists). Has created man from a clot. Read and Your Lord is Most Generous...up to..... ..that which he knew not." (96.15) Then Allah's Messenger (saw) returned with the Inspiration, his neck muscles twitching with terror till he entered upon Khadija and said, "Cover me! Cover me!" They covered him till his fear was over and then he said, "O Khadija, what is wrong with me?" Then he told her everything that had happened and said, 'I fear that something may happen to me." Khadija said, 'Never! But have the glad tidings, for by Allah, Allah will never disgrace you as you keep good reactions with your Kith and kin, speak the truth, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guest generously and assist the deserving, calamityafflicted ones." Khadija then accompanied him to (her cousin) Waraqa bin Naufal bin Asad bin `Abdul `Uzza bin Qusai. Waraqa was the son of her paternal uncle, i.e., her father's brother, who during the Pre-Islamic Period became a Christian and used to write the Arabic writing and used to write of the Gospels in Arabic as much as Allah wished him to write. Waraqa replied in the affirmative and said: "Never did a man come with something similar to what you have brought but was treated with hostility. If I should remain alive till the day when you will be turned out then I would support you strongly." But after a few days Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was also paused for a while and the Prophet (saw) became so sad as we have heard that he intended several times to throw himself from the tops of high mountains and every time he went up the top of a mountain in order to throw himself down, Gabriel would appear before him and say, "O Muhammad! You are indeed Allah's Messenger (saw) in truth" whereupon his heart would become quiet and he would calm down and would return home. And whenever the period of the coming of the inspiration used to become long, he would do as before, but when he used to reach the top of a mountain, Gabriel would appear before him and say to him what he had said before. (Ibn `Abbas said regarding the meaning of: 'He it is that Cleaves the daybreak (from the darkness)' (6.96) that Al-Asbah. means the light of the sun during the day and the light of the moon at night).

Waraqah bin naufal was a wise man who studied history he knows the nature of the conflict between truth and false hood.

He knows that Mohammed(saw) was admired by his people even though he belongs to the noblest family, even though he had no conflict with the members of his community but because he is calling them to Islam this is what will happen to him. He will go thru this trials and tribulations and what waraqa bin naufal said came to happen and it happen exactly as he said . The waraqa bin naufal was the early warning to Mohammed(saw) what was coming ahead. (ie) its going to be difficult and it wont be easy for you!.

The first word given to Raslulullah(saw) was IQRA recite. What does that mean for us.

A ummah that reads,
A ummah that studies,
A ummah that learns

This words is so powerful that came to illiterate nations and made them the scholars of the world.

When Quran was revealed the follower of Rasulullah(Saw) was mostly illiterate but these words inspired them to learn. And with in a very short time the Muslim ummah become the most educated and most scholarly in the face of the earth. The number of scholars that this ummah has produced is enamors and the qualities of the scholars of this ummah is uniqueness and they don’t have any resemblance in any other nation

For example:

-    Memory of Bukhari, His ability to memorize over the Quarter of the million hadiths.

-    As shafaee , who said that when I open a book I have to cover one page because I will memorize the information
in other page and I don’t want to mix these two pages.(Photographic memory)

-    Scholar al-Wafa' bin 'Aqeel who wrote 300 volumes of Encyclopedia unfortunately it did not survived the original
copies of it was in the library of Bagdad which was sacked by TARTTARS. Only volume of 1 or 2 still survive

The situation with Raslulullah(saw) was different , he did not learn how to read and write. For Rasulullah(Saw) the word IQRA means RECITE but for us it means we have learn how to read and write. . But with Raslulullah(Saw) it has different meaning (ie) Recite and Repeat what Allah(swt) has revealed to him.

Because With Raslulullah(saw) Allah(swt) want him to be illiterate, it was part of the PLAN the Qadar of ALLAH(azzaujal) . Allah(swt) says

After third time. Jibreel(as) recited the first verses of Quran
Surat 'Surat Al-Ankabut  (The Spider) Chapter 29: Verse 48

Sahih International
And you did not recite before it any scripture, nor did you inscribe one with your right hand. Otherwise the falsifiers would have had [cause for] doubt.

Muhsin Khan
Neither did you (O Muhammad SAW) read any book before it (this Quran), nor did you write any book (whatsoever) with your right hand. In that case, indeed, the followers of falsehood might have doubted.

Allah(swt) says that Mohammed (saw) first of all he did not learn any scripture before Quran and he had not learn the ability to read and write so he was a illiterate.

Now why was
Rasulullah(saw) after Islam had to learn to read and write , what purpose that would serve him and good what would do that to him when he was receiving the knowledge fresh froWe are the Ummah of Knowledge , we are the Ummah of Scholarship and unfortunately today we are lagging behind in our duties .  This is the Ummah that has to be on TOP in the fields of Scholarship
m Allah(swt) through Jibreel (as)

What purpose that made Rasulullah(saw) to learn how to Read and Write:
To us reading is our Key to knowledge, that’s how we can learn knowledge . But for Raslulullah(Saw) he is been thought by Jibreel (as) and nothing that books would do for Rasulullah(saw) . There is no knowledge that books can offer to Raslululah(saw) when he is receiving the knowledge directly from Allah(Swt)

IQRA has the different meaning for Mohammed (saw) it means Recite in his case but for us it means Read and this is how the early Muslims understood the first word of the Quran.

Noteice that the fourth Ayay “  (Who taught by the pen) , so that was the indication for us that the Allah(swt) who thought the pen And Allah(swt) makes an Oath in

Soorah Qalm

[Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe,]

When Allah(swt) makes an Oath on something It is to give it Importance. So Allah made an Oath in the name of the PEN .

And it is mentioned in the Battle of Badr , the non-believers who  were prisoners of WAR , were offered Freedom if they can teach 10 Muslims how to read and write.  That is the importance that Islam gave to knowledge.

We are the Ummah of Knowledge , we are the Ummah of Scholarship and unfortunately today we are lagging behind in our duties This is the Ummah that has to be on TOP in the fields of Scholarship
.

Lesson
If we have lost the interest in Learning at least let’s fix the problem with next generations. Our illiteracy and difficulty in gaining knowledge  should not inherit to our children. We want to make sure that the next generation is the generation that would love reading , love knowledge , and love to study and learn.

The study is made on children who love to learn and the one who don’t have the same interest. And they try to find what is the difference in up bring (brought up), how come some children love reading and some don’t. They found out some common characteristic among the children who love to read

1)    Their parents are people who love reading, so the child will grow seeing one of their parents or both holding a book.  In the early years of a Human development it is a process of Imitation. So when the Childs grows up in their young age seeing one or both the parents always holding the book for reading , they associate this reading with something good (habit) , so grow up loving , playing with magazines and stuff , even thought the child does not able to read yet nevertheless they are flipping the pages of magazines .  since they are unable to ready they will look for photos and pictures.  They are doing this b’cos they see their parents doing. So the more they see their parents reading and flipping the pages of the books they more imitate them.

-    In your house in front of your children Read, Give them this good example

2)    They grow in the house that have books , they have a good library for books , they have lot of books surround them in their young age, so they have access to books.

3)    Their own libraries , It is something good to encourage your child to own a library and to built their own library , as a human being we have the love of ownership  , especially with the kids ‘ hey this is mine’.  This is always we hear from the kids ‘this is belongs to me’. Have them the feel of they own the books they have their own library.   It has some special meaning to them.

4)    Their parents would take them out to books source , library. When the parents want to entertain their children they would take them to public library , to book stores ,. All of this is the part of encouraging them.

5)    These are childrens who watch little or NO TV, TV is one of the greatest distraction from Learning .  If you give a child a choice between TV and a book they will choose TV. So restricting their TV viewing would encourage them to read

This are some steps that parents can take to ensure that our kids grow up loving Reading.

To correctly qualify the above statements. Is that don’t mean that read any thing , at particular stages there could be something that is dangerous for the development of a person.
Rasulullah(saw) in the early years of Madina , he saw with Umar bin kattab (ra) some scrolls of Tohrah. Rasulullah(saw) was very angry and his face was Red. He (Saw) criticize Umar bin Kattab(ra) for reading from the Tohrah.,  but that was not the permanent band in was in the early years until the muslims develop the solid foundation and later on that order was abrogated and Rasulullah(saw) said , I have prohibited you from reading the stories of bani-Israil (children of Israel) meaning their scriptures but now I am allowing you to read it however don’t believe it and don’t disbelieve in it .  In other words you are going to face some statements that have no reference in Quran so don’t take it as the truth and in the same time don’t reject it , because  it is possibly could be true or possible could be some later insertion.

Rasulullah(saw) did not want to expose to material at the early stage of Islam development, that could be detrimental for their education process. And in any curriculum and in any instauration it is a development process. So you need to feed the student what the student is capable of observing.

Ibn-Masood (ra) says “If you speek to the people and you think that their minds are unable to comprehended then it would turn fitna for  some of them , it might turn them away.

Their one must be careful what mate
So thr is some good knowledge and thr is some bad knowledge , we know that for a fact it is in sura Baqra the two angles who came down to teach the people magic , They are teaching people the knowledge that is evil and they are telling the people  that this is not good for you , even though this is knowledge but this is knowledge that does not benefit , it’s the knowledge of sorcery (magic)
rial they are reading and what material their children are reading.  Not here to say to read any books like comics and other non-sense books that exist out there. Or people just wasting their time you will find people are just holding books in trains and planes most of the time its going to be a fiction book , A Novel, it is just the way to pass their time thr is no real knowledge in it.

In Islam we should know that the  knowledge that benefits us and the knowledge that does not.
Rasulullah(saw) use to make the dua

.  "Allahumma inna nas aluka 'ilman naafi'an wa a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa"

"O Allah I ask you to give me knowledge that benefits and I seek refuge in you from the knowledge that does not”

Sunan Ibn Majah » Book of Supplication » Chapter: The Supplication of The Messenger of Allah

Abu Hurairah told that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said:
'Allahumma! Inni a'udhu bika minal-arba': min 'ilmin la yanfa'u, wa min qalbin la yakhsha'u, wa min nafsin la tashba'u, wa min du'a'in la yusma' [O Allah, I seek refuge with You from four things: From knowledge that is of no benefit, from a heart that does not fear (You), from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a supplication that is not heard].'"

The original Tatars inhabited the north-eastern Gobi in the 5th century and, after subjugation in the 9th century by the Khitans, migrated southward. In the 13th century, they were subjugated by the Mongol Empire under Genghis Khan. Under the leadership of his grandson Batu Khan, they moved westwards, driving with them many stems of the Turkic Ural-Altayans towards the plains of Russia.

Ibn Qayyim or Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah) (1292-1350CE / 691 AH- 751 AH

Ibn Qayyim's teachers included his father, Abu Bakr, Shihaab al-'Abir, Taqiyyud-Deen Sulaymaan, Safiyyud-Deen al-Hindee, Ismaa'eel Ibn Muhammad al-Harraanee. However, the most notable of his teachers was Shaykhul-lslaam Ibn Taymiyyah, whom he accompanied and studied under for sixteen years.

Disciple of Ibn Taymiyah Sheikh Islam
Ibn Qayyim ultimately joined the study circle of the Muslim scholar Sheikh ul-Islam Taqiyyu-Deen Ahmad Ibn Taymiyah, 661H – 728H (1263–1328), who kept him in his company as his closest student, disciple and his successor. Ibn Qayyim was fervent in his devotion to Islam, and he was a loyal student and disciple of Ibn Taymiyah. He defended his religious opinions and approaches, and he compiled and edited most of his works, and taught the same.

Because of their views, both the teacher and the student were persecuted, tortured by tyrannical rulers, and humiliated in public by the local authorities, as they were imprisoned in a single cell in the central prison of Damascus, known today as al-Qala.

Following the Death of Ibn Taymiyah

When Ibn Taymiyyah died, Ibn Qayyim was freed and subsequently furthered his studies, holding study circles and classes. He taught Islamic Jurisprudence at al-Sadriyya school in Damascus, before he held the position of the Imam of the Jawziyyah school. Most of his writings were compilations, although he authored several books and manuscripts with his own handwriting which are preserved in the central Library of Damascus.

Among the renowned Muslim scholars who studied under him, include Ibn 'Abd al-Haadi (d. 744H), al-Fayruz Aabadi (d. 817H), Ibn Rajab (d. 795H), Ibn Kathir, and others who frequented his circles.
In praising his teacher, Ibn Kathir stated :
He was most friendly and kindhearted, he never envied anyone, he never caused harm to anyone, he never bore prejudice against anyone, and I was the closest to his heart. Furthermore, I do not know anyone who is more devout in his worship than he is in our time.
Ibn Qayyim catered to all the branches of Islamic science, and was particularly known and commended for his commentaries. Ibn Rajab spoke of his teacher, noting :
: "He was an accomplished scholar of Islamic science, and no one could rival him in his deep understanding of the Qur'an and prophetic saying, and his interpretations were unique in accuracy."
Ibn Qaium talks about different kinds of revelations “From his book  Zaadul Ma'aad

Ibn Qaium talks about different kinds of revelations “From his book  Zaadul Ma'aad, This book contains many volumes and is everything that surrounding Rasulullah(saw), like

-    Prophetic medicine (the book medicine of prophate is one volume of the zaadul ma’aad)
-    Different types of transportation, all of his weapons, His Wives, His Children, His family life, what would messenger of Allah do when he was in HAJJ, In Solath, it is everything about the life of Mohammed (saw).

The amazing thing about this book is ‘Ibn-Qayyim saying in the introduction of the book “I wrote this book when I was travelling not when I was residing in my house Therefore I did not had my references and my books with me.” Its an amazing work that without having a references and books with you to come up with such a topic and write such a book when you travelling and  a pretty much the best book written on the subject.

Ibn-Qayyum states in his book about different category and stages of revelations.

First is the period of True vision: It was the starting point of revelation to the messenger of Allah(saw) .  for six month before receiving revelation Rasulillah(saw) use to frequently see dreams . He will see the dream at night time and he will see the fulfillment of the dream during the day time. This continues for six months.

Rasulullah(saw) says about dreams that the true dream (ie) 1 out of 46 parts of  prophet hood , this number is interesting because 6 months of dreams, 23 years of prophet hood. The ratio of 6months:23 years is 1 : 46.
Sahih al-Bukhari » Book of Interpretation of Dreams »The dreams of righteous people

'Narrated Anas bin Malik::
"Allah's Messenger (saw) said, "A good dream (that comes true) of a righteous man is one of forty-six parts of prophetism."

1    Dream

Dreams are something that believers can see it, it is not restricted to the prophets, the difference is in the situation of the prophets A dream is a form of revelation with us we have three categories of dreams which was stated by Rasulullah(saw)

1.    True Dream, This is the dream it will occur as it was seen or it has a meaning that is to be interpreted
2.    A Dream from Shaytaan ,

a.    Rasulullah(saw) says “It’s a dream from Satan and he wants to inflict harm on you”
b.    Rasulullah(saw) says, “if you ever see such a dream , then seek refuge from Allah from Shaytaan and don’t tell that dream to anyone
Sahih al-Bukhari » Book of Interpretation of Dreams » Interpretation of Dreams
(46) Chapter: A bad dream should not be told to anybody

'Narrated Abu Salama(ra):
"I used to see a dream which would make me sick till I heard Abu Qatada saying, "I too, used to see a dream which would make me sick till I heard the Prophet (saw) saying, "A good dream is from Allah, so if anyone of you saw a dream which he liked, he should not tell it to anybody except to the one whom he loves, and if he saw a dream which he disliked, then he should seek refuge with Allah from its evil and from the evil of Satan, and spit three times (on his left) and should not tell it to anybody, for it will not harm him.."

Why, This is what shaytaan wants to happen , he want to see you miserable going around to the people complaining about that horrible dream that you seen , so Rasulullah(saw) telling us forget about it, don’t tell anybody about if you seen a bad dream

3.
Rasulullah(saw) says, “ you think about something in day time and you dream about that in night time “  So something on your mind.  Rasulullah(saw) it’s a meaningless dream, it does not have any meaning.

2    Angel inspire to Rasulullah(saw) but he does not appear to Mohammed Rasulullah(saw), that’s the form of inspiration

The Messenger of Allâh (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: "The Noble Spirit revealed to me ‘No soul will perish until it exhausts its due course, so fear Allâh and gently request Him. Never get so impatient to the verge of disobedience of Allâh. What Allâh has can never be acquired but through obedience to Him.’

This is not Jibreel (as) speaking to Mohammed (saw)  , but its an inspiration

3    The angel appearing to Mohammed (saw) in the physical form of human being

4    The angle came to him like the clanging of a bell.

This was the most difficult form because the angle use to siege him tightly and sweat will come from his forehead even on the coldest day .  This was the most difficult form

i.    Jibreel(as) will descend on mohammed (saw) and Messenger of Allah(saw) will feel the weight and he will hear the voice of ringing bell that might be the vibration of the wings of the angle. There is an another hadith that says that . “When Allah(swt) reveals his command the angles have so much kushooa they will start shaking their wings and the sound of the moment of the wings like dragging a chain over a rock bed. (its dragging steel over rocks).

ii.    When Jibrel(as) come to Rasulullah(saw) in this form,  the weight of Rasulullah(saw) will increase , and if he is on top of his camel then camel would force to get down on its knees  because of the extreme weight and the back of the camel would bend.

iii.    Once Rasulullah(saw) has his knee over the Thigh of Zaid-bin-HARITHA (ra) and Jibreel descended on Mohammed (saw) , Zain bin-Harith said I felt the weight of the knee of Rasulullah(saw) like almost going to crush my thigh.

This seems to be very heavy because words of the Quran are heavy Allah(swt) says

Surat Al-Muzzammil (The Enshrouded One) 73:05

Sahih International
Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word.
Muhsin Khan
Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.).

5    The Prophet(saw) see jibreel(as) in actual form this occurred twice and its mentioned in surah Najm. (53:13, 14)

Surat An-Najm (The Star)  53:13,14

Sahih International
And he certainly saw him in another descent
At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary -
Muhsin Khan
And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time).
Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)],

Ibn KhatirHis full name was Abu Al-Fida, 'Imad Ad-Din, Isma'il bin 'Umar bin Kathir, Al-Qurashi, Al-Busrawi.

He was born in 1301 in Busra, Syria (hence Al-Busrawi) and
He was taught by Ibn Taymiyya, and others
Her died in 774 AH / February 1373 in Damascus.

Rasulullah(saw) initially instructed to keep the message private not to make it public and to invite only very close associates. So Rasulullah(saw) make dawa to only those are close to him .

The first person to believe out of both men & women was Khadija (rah)  , she was the first believer.

What make Khadija Special : How come she is one of the greatest women ever lived?

  • Was this because of her career or because of her knowledge?, What was it exactly, that made khadija to make among the 4 best ever lived.
  • Sisters should revisit this text about Khadija and other 3 women mentioned in the hadith.’Maryam’, ‘Aaseeya’, and ‘Fatima’
  • Something common between these 4 women are followings
    1) Solid spiritual heart:-
    • All of the four had a solid spiritual heart , Their Eeman was powerful , Their faith to Allah(swt) reached to the yakeen (ie) state of conviction , nothing can bring them down in their heart (ie) heart has observed the Eeman that made the heart unshakeable , this is Yakeen. It is strong to the extent that one would have more faith in what they believe then what they will see and hear This is Yakeen.
    • Example ‘Aaseeya’  had all what a worldly women would want (wealth, comfort living, rich and powerful husband, servants , power etc), she was willing to give up all of these for the sake of Allah (azzaujal) .  Allah(swt) had put her in a place that was the best in the world , she said oh ‘Allah’ I want a house in Janah.
    •  Quran  (Surat At-Tahri'm) (The Prohibtiion)

      Sahih International
And Allah presents an example of those who believed: the wife of Pharaoh, when she said, "My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds and save me from the wrongdoing people."-
      Muhsin Khan
And Allah has set forth an example for those who believe, the wife of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), when she said: "My Lord! Build for me a home with You in Paradise, and save me from Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his work, and save me from the people who are Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers and disbelievers in Allah).
    • The willingness to give up all of the worldly life and aspects for the sake of Allah(azzaujal) is the reflection of the depth of her faith.
    • The willingness was while she was living in an evil and corrupted environment. She was surrounded from Evil from every direction. Nevertheless she was able to come all of her surroundings and attached her heart to ALLAH. This is the indication of the strength of EeMAAN that you are able to fight the tide of evil that is surrounded in every direction and still keep the connection to ALLAH.
    • All Other three women are of the same level of EMAAN.
  • 2) GOOD wives or GOOD mothers:- Second common thing that they had was all of the four either GOOD wives or GOOD mothers. These four women are not great because of their knowledge, Carrier, etc.
    • Aaseeya and Maryam they raised two great awliya-anbiya of ALLAH (Moosa and Esa)
    • Khadija (rah) was outstanding because of her support to her Husband . It was not because she was a business women that did not factor in. it was because she was an excellent wife for Rasulullah(saw) , she supported him when he need her. Rasulullah(saw) always find Khadija on his side.
    • Fatimah (rah) was an exceptional wife too.
As an example: Ali (ra) heard that Rasulullah(saw) has received some servant, so he and his wife decided to go to Rasulullah(saw) and ask him one servant because of the difficult work that Fatima (rah) is going thru in her house , They went to Rasulullah(saw) but he was not there. , so they spoke to Aisha(rah) and Aisha(rah) told the situation of Ali  and Fatima to Rasulullah(saw) , so he went to the house of Ali and Fatima , They were already in their bed about to go to sleep. As soon as we saw Rasulullah(saw) we stood up , Rasulullah(saw) said remain where you are. And Rasulullah(saw) sat between Ali and Fatima

Rasulullah(saw) loves his daughter so much , once he said that Fatima is a part of me. What hurts her hurts me and what pleases her pleases me , This was only survining/living child he love her deeply , so Rasulullah(saw) want to do for her daughter that is best for her. He wants her daughter to have the best life . Rasulullah(saw) had the ability to give her a servant , but he said I had something better for you then a servant (ie) before you go to bed say
      'Subhan Allah'thirty-three times,
      'Alhamdulillah' thirty three times, and
      'Allahu Akbar' thirty three times,
for that is better for you than a servant.".
Sahih al-Bukhari » Book of One-fifth of Booty to the Cause of Allah (Khumus) » Hadith
Chapter: The Khumus is meant for the needs of Allah's Messenger saws and the poor

      Narrated `Ali:

Fatima complained of what she suffered from the hand mill and from grinding, when she got the news that some slave girls of the booty had been brought to Allah's Messenger (saw). She went to him to ask for a maid-servant, but she could not find him, and told `Aisha of her need. When the Prophet (saw) came, Aisha informed him of that. The Prophet (saw) came to our house when we had gone to our beds. (On seeing the Prophet) we were going to get up, but he said, 'Keep at your places,' I felt the coolness of the Prophet's feet on my chest. Then he said, "Shall I tell you a thing which is better than what you asked me for? When you go to your beds, say: 'Allahu Akbar (i.e. Allah is Greater)' for 34 times, and 'Al hamdu Li llah (i.e. all the praises are for Allah)' for 33 times, and Subhan Allah (i.e. Glorified be Allah) for 33 times. This is better for you than what you have requested."-

Rasulullah(saw) knew her daughter (ie) the daughter of the best and she is of the best , Rasulullah(saw) that she was serving in her house hold until her hands become harsh, nevertheless Rasulullah(saw) advice her to continue with what she is doing . Ali (ra) said that later on Fatima was working so hard that , she was using the stone mill until her hands become harsh and rough . She was drawing water out of the Well until it left the marks on her neck, she was cleaning her house until her cloths become dirty. She was cooking until it affected her face This was the daughter of the greatest man ever lived on the face of the earth Mohammed (saw) and she was her only surviving daughter and Rasulullah(saw) knew what she was going through.

This make the Fatima(rah) among the 4 best women who ever lived.

In terms of Knowledge Ayisha(ra) is more knowledgeable then Fatima and Khadija, Nevertheless Ayesha(rah) did not had the same level of Fatima and Khadija

So sisters think about your future, Think about your priority. This is not to say that we should not learn and we should not islamically active , but we want to know where the Ajr is , the Greatest Ajr is . We all encourage to full fill our role to be the best and learn the most but there are things that are more rewardable then others so let’s optimize our Ibada.

Khadija (rah) was first to believe and she stood beside Rasulullah(saw) until she die .

The first Slave to become Muslim was ‘Zaid bin Haritha’ (Ra) (who also among the household of Rasulullah(saw))

The first Child to become Muslim was ‘Ali bin abitalib’ (ra)

The first free man to become Muslim was ‘Abu Bkr Siddiq’ (ra)

There is a old discussion among our scholars (ie) Who was the first man to become Muslim. Some would say Abu bakr and some would say Ali bin abitalib. IBN HAJR AsQaliani’ (Auther of blug-al-maram’) tries to resolve this dispute He says the first to accept the Islam was ‘Abu bakr’ because  Ali bin abi talib was never been a non-muslim to become a Muslim. Because  when he accepted Islam he was at his young age (not yet reached puberty as generally believed) and he never worshipped idol and never embraced the religion of the idol worshipper. And he was brought up in the household of prophet hood. Therefore he was brought up in Islam from day one

These were the family of Rasulullah(saw). The acceptance of Islam by Abu-bakr is more beneficial than the acceptance of those mentioned before because.
1.    He was highly respected leader
2.    Honored chief of Qurish
3.    And a man of wealth

He becomes a missionary for Islam and very much like for spending his wealth for Islam for the service of Allah and his messenger.
.
Abu-bakr put everything on the line for the service of Allah and his messenger, all of his wealth, all of his business, all of his connections and networks etc. that’s why he was called Siddque because he was the first.   Siddque is the one who believes . people rejected Rasulullah(saw) Abu-Bkr accepted him . He never had second thought about serving Islam

-    He was the one who came with all of his wealth
-    He was the one who first believe in Rasulullah(saw) in Mecca
-    He was the one who first believe in Isra wal meraj
-    He was the one who accompanied in the difficult journey of Hijra

That’s the status of Abu-bkr (Ra)

The Loyalty of Rasulullah(saw) with one who stood with him in the early days . A hadith in Bukhari

Abu Dardha (ra) narrates “
Ali (ra) said ‘ I will see Rasulullah(saw) enter with Abubkr and umar , He(saw) leave with Abu bakr and Umar , He(saw) will sit with Abu bakr and Umar, where ever you see Rasulullah(saw) you will see Abu bakr on one side and Umar on other side. They were his two advices. But still Rasulullah(saw) had the special Loyalty to the oncs who were with him form early days . So this dispute happen between  Abu bakr and Umar.
.
Sahih al-Bukhari » Prophetic Commentary on the Qur'an (Tafseer of the Prophet (pbuh)

.

Narrated Abu Ad-Darda:

There was a dispute between Abu Bakr and `Umar, and Abu Bakr made `Umar angry. So `Umar left angrily. Abu Bakr followed him, requesting him to ask forgiveness (of Allah) for him, but `Umar refused to do so and closed his door in Abu Bakr's face. So Abu Bakr went to Allah's Messenger (saw) while we were with him. Allah's Messenger (saw) said, "This friend of yours must have quarrelled (with somebody)." In the meantime `Umar repented and felt sorry for what he had done, so he came, greeted (those who were present) and sat with the Prophet (saw) and related the story to him. Allah's Messenger (saw) became angry and Abu Bakr started saying, "O Allah's Messenger (saw)! By Allah, I was more at fault (than `Umar)." Allah's Apostle said, "Are you (people) leaving for me my companion? (Abu Bakr), Are you (people) leaving for me my companion? When I said, 'O people I am sent to you all as the Apostle of Allah,' you said, 'You tell a lie.' while Abu Bakr said, 'You have spoken the truth ."

The early stage of DAWA , the secrete stage was over with the revelation of the verse
Surat Ash-Shu`ar' (The Poets) 26:214

Sahih International
And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred.

Muhsin Khan
And warn your tribe (O Muhammad SAW) of near kindred.

It was revealed to Rasulullah(saw)Rasulullah(saw) went out and stood out on the mount of As-Safa. And Called ‘Wa-Subahaa’ . Wa-Subahaa like sounding the Alarm (emergency) They don’t say ‘Wa-Subaha’ unless there is an emergency is going on. Some thing very critical . Every one who heard , They ran towards the source of the VOICE. And the one who could not go they will send someone to report back to them. All the people gathered .  Rasulullah(saw) asked them , if I tell you there is a ARMY behind this mountain is about to ambush you , Would you believe me? Prophetic Commentary on the Qur'an (Tafseer of the Prophet (pbuh)

“MA hahidna alayka kazibaa’, we have never heard you lie , and
Rasulullah(saw) said “fa inni nazeerullakum alaykum baina yadai azaamun aleem” I am here to warn you a severe punishment , I came to warn you , Allah(swt) sent me as a Warner to you , and I warn you about the severe punishment will fall you if you don’t believe. These were the words Rasulullah(saw) chose to deliver in his first public speech to the people of Quraish.

This was very straight forward without much introduction , Straight to the point   .
Rasulullah(saw) did that because the Anbiyaa ‘Allah (saw) tell them that your duty is ‘Balaq mubeen’ . your duty is to convey the message plainly. So when you convey the message it should not be confusing, it should not be obscure and it should not be sugar coated. It should not be altered, It should be straight forwarded. Because it should be leave any doubt in the mind of the listeners.
.
Sahih al-Bukhari »  Prophetic Commentary on the Qur'an (Tafseer of the Prophet (pbuh)

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

When the Verse:-- 'And warn your tribe of near kindred.' (26.214) was revealed. Allah's Messenger (saw) went out, and when he had ascended As-Safa mountain, he shouted, "O Sabahah!" The people said, "Who is that?" "Then they gathered around him, whereupon he said, "Do you see? If I inform you that cavalrymen are proceeding up the side of this mountain, will you believe me?" They said, "We have never heard you telling a lie." Then he said, "I am a plain warner to you of a coming severe punishment." Abu Lahab said, "May you perish! You gathered us only for this reason? " Then Abu Lahab went away. So the "Surat:--ul--LAHAB" 'Perish the hands of Abu Lahab!' (111.1) was revealed.

Now unfortunately when we make dawa . we confuse the listener , the listeners comes out not knowing what’s going on. ‘What are we talking about’ , ‘What are the consequences of believe and what are the consequences of disbelieve” . But Rasulullah(sw) will not leave any doubt in the mind of the listeners. The listeners know that ‘if they believe they will be promised Janna’ if they don’t they are risking hell fire.

People there assumed that this is something urgent and important and it was. Abu-LAHAB responded and said “May evil be fall you the rest of your day”  is this why you called us?  .  Abu Lahab was upset and angry because
Rasulullah(saw) called for some urgent gathering during the official business hours and it took me from my work and my business and I came here , he is talking about religion, he is talking about spirituality , etc, he is wasting my time .  I could have made money in those valuable minutes that I spent listening to him . Abu-Lahab is not alone in that he is speaking behalf of lot of people.

Same as people spent hours and hours , days and days to do research (blue books, green books, classified ads etc) on worldly thinks like buying cars, buying refrigerator etc. just to save few hundred dollars  and I am not willing to spend 30 minutes that would save me in my eternal life .

Abu-Lahab representing lot of people, Allah(swt) revealed .
Surat Al-Masad (The Palm Fiber, Flame) 111:1,2

Sahih International
May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.
Muhsin Khan
Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab (an uncle of the Prophet), and perish he!

Sahih International
His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.
Muhsin Khan
His wealth and his children (etc.) will not benefit him! .

What was keeping Abu-Lahab away from the truth? Business, his wealth. Allah(swt) telling that his wealth will do him no GOOD. The people who are rushing after duniya , duniya will do no GOOD, if they don’t have islam in their heart.
This soorah is a miracle of the Quran , b’cos it says ‘Abu-Lahab and his Wife are in hell fire’ . This aya revealed when both still alive . If both wanted to prove Quran wrong they could have said we are Muslim, but they remain as disbelivers until they die .  This is a miracle of the quran. It is speaking about an event that did not happen yet
